Former champion Dominic Dale profitted from a huge slice of fortune to qualify for the TV stages of the Royal London Grand Prix - live on Eurosport - although Jimmy White missed out.
Because of the various permutations in Dale's qualifying group in Prestatyn this week, only a 3-2 win for Shokat Ali over Sean Storey meant 1997 champion Dale would qualify.
Ali duly delivered the right result, leaving Dale thanking his lucky stars.
'I must be the luckiest person here,' he told IC Wales. 'I can't believe I went through and it was agony waiting for that last match to finish.'
However, Jimmy White's bid to qualify ended in disappointment as the 44-year-old Londoner finished third behind Northern Ireland's Mark Allen and Leicester's Tom Ford.
Ford, who reached the quarter-finals of last year's Malta Cup, came from 2-0 down in his crucial final match to edge second place.
"This will be my first venue since that quarter-final in Malta so it's good to be back," the 23-year-old said. "I've never played any of the others in my group before so I'm looking forward to Aberdeen."
